It goes by many titles, but I prefer to call myself a Homemaker. I think it is the best summary of what I do. And I'm not married to my house!
Right now I'm reading my new -free- copy of "Passionate Housewives Desperate for God" and I'm thoroughly enjoying it!
Here are a few thoughts that have stood out to me so far;
~~~~~~~~~~
"The enemy of our souls knows that if he can't convince us that God's ways are wrong, he can at least try to convince us that we've misunderstood what God said."
~~~~~~~~~~
"We must die to self on a minute-by-minute basis . . . Do you feel like you've been "losing your life" lately? Perhaps you've made the mistake of trying to save it."
~~~~~~~~~~
"What you do in your house is worth as much as if you did it up in heaven for our Lord God. We should accustom ourselves to think of our position and work as sacred and well-pleasing to God, not on account of the position and work, but on account of the word and faith from which the obedience and the work flow. " Martin Luther
~~~~~~~~~~
"A growing number of women are shedding the "desperate housewife" label and gracefully donning their calling with gusto. Homemaker and former attorney Cheryl Mendelson has this to say about her experience in both arenas;
'So many people imagine housekeeping to be boring, frustrating, repetitive, unintelligent drudgery. I cannot agree. In fact, having kept house, practiced law, taught, and done many other sorts of work, low- and high-paid, I can assure you that it is actually lawyers who are most familiar with the experience of unintelligent drudgery . . . "
~~~~~~~~~~
I've never considered housekeeping to be an unintelligent job. Sometimes boring yes, but not unintelligent! And the amount of skill, talent, wisdom and discretion needed to fulfill the titles of 'wife' and 'mother' is really rather overwhelming!
But enough said, I must get back to my job!
I agree! Definitely a challenge, and one which requires all the ingenuity, creativity, and intelligence we can muster. :)
Great thoughts and quotes, Rachel. Thanks so much for sharing!
